What is net promoter score?
Net promoter score is a metric derived from a single question — how likely you are to recommend something on a scale of zero to ten — subtracting the share of low scorers from the share of high ones.
net promoter score in detail
Also written as NPS, recommendation score.
Net promoter score comes from one question: how likely are you to recommend this to a colleague, from zero to ten. High scorers count positively, low scorers negatively, and the middle is discarded.
In practice at an event
Its virtue at a conference is brevity and comparability. One question, ten seconds, and a number you can put next to last year’s.
Its limitation is that the number on its own changes nothing. A score of 41 does not tell you what to fix. The follow-up — “what is the main reason for that score?” — is where every actionable finding lives, and it is the question people cut when the survey gets long.
Response bias is real and predictable. The people who answer are the ones who loved it and the ones who had a specific bad experience; the middle is under-represented. Read the score as a floor and a ceiling rather than an average.
What to look for
Do not benchmark against a published industry figure. The samples are not comparable, the collection methods differ, and event scores in particular are collected from wildly different moments in the attendee’s memory.
Compare to yourself, at the same point after the event, with the same wording, every year.
How event67 handles it
The recommendation question is a survey question rather than a product feature, and it belongs in your post-event survey — event67 does not compute a score for you. What the product does collect is per-session ratings and organizer-routed comments during the event, which are the more actionable half of the same picture and arrive while attendees still remember the specific talk.
