What is event ticketing?

Event ticketing is the sale of admission to an event, covering ticket types, payment processing, confirmations and the delivery of a ticket that can be checked at the door.

event ticketing in detail

Also written as ticket sales, box office.

Ticketing is registration with money attached. Where registration collects a sign-up, ticketing collects a payment, issues a ticket and takes a fee.

In practice at an event

The commercial model is what distinguishes ticketing from most other event software. Rather than a licence, ticketing platforms typically charge a service fee per ticket plus a payment processing percentage, both taken from each transaction. That makes the cost proportional to your revenue and largely invisible until you model it.

Ticketing platforms also usually run a discovery marketplace, which is a genuine benefit for public events looking for an audience and irrelevant for a private corporate event.

What to look for

Model the fees at your actual ticket price and volume before choosing, because a percentage-based fee on a $600 conference ticket is a much larger number than the same percentage on a $20 event.

Then decide whether you want the same vendor for ticketing and the app. Bundling is convenient and it means a single point of failure and a single point of leverage at renewal. Many organizers deliberately keep them separate.

One integration detail to settle early: which system owns the attendee’s name and email once both exist. Answering that at the start avoids the situation where a corrected name in one system never reaches the other, and the badge disagrees with the app.

Where event67 stands

event67 does not sell tickets, does not process attendee payments and has no box office. Attendees arrive by invitation from a list you already hold.

Ticketing platforms are therefore complements rather than competitors: sell the ticket wherever you sell it, export the attendee list, import it into event67, and invite. The one thing to avoid is expecting event67 to replace a ticketing platform, because it will not.
