What is dwell time at an event?
Dwell time is the length of time an attendee spends in a particular space, session or area of an event, used as a proxy for interest or value.
dwell time in detail
Also written as time in session, time on stand.
Dwell time is how long somebody stayed. Exhibitors care about it at a stand, organizers care about it in a session, and both are harder to measure honestly than the number on a dashboard suggests.
In practice at an event
Real dwell time needs a start and an end. That means scanning in and out of a room, or location hardware such as beacons or RFID, both of which are staffing and cost decisions rather than software settings.
What is often reported as dwell time is something else entirely: how long an attendee had a session screen open in the app. That measures phone use, and it is close to inversely related to engagement — an attendee absorbed in a talk is not looking at their phone.
What to look for
Ask exactly how a vendor derives any dwell figure they show. If it comes from app screen time, treat it as a curiosity rather than a measurement.
For most conferences the more honest and more useful number is simpler: session attendance against room capacity. It tells you what your audience chose, it requires no hardware, and nobody has to interpret it.
Where event67 stands
event67 does not measure dwell time. There is no session-level scanning, no beacons and no RFID, and it does not report app screen time as attendance.
What it does report is engagement analytics during the event — active attendees, funnels, top sessions — and check-in arrivals against the guest list. If genuine per-session dwell measurement matters to your event, that is a hardware and staffing programme, not an app feature.
