Boomset (the retired Hopin event product): what happened, and what to do now

Boomset (the retired Hopin event product) stopped being a product in 2023. Its owner announced the sunset, set a date, and switched off account access the day after. If you are searching for it now you are almost certainly looking for something to replace the job it used to do, so this page says what happened and where the pieces went.

What happened to Boomset

Boomset (the retired Hopin event product) (Boomset is a trademark of Hopin) was an onsite event technology product. Hopin acquired it on 16 June 2021, and the trade press coverage of that deal describes a product covering badges, self-service kiosks, QR check-in, RFID, UHF and NFC attendee tracking, cashless payments, and attendance and demographic analytics (accessed 3 September 2026).

The retirement was announced less than two years later. Trade press dated 7 March 2023 reported Hopin's announcement that Boomset would be retired on 1 September 2023, with no account access from 2 September 2023 (accessed 3 September 2026). The delisting followed the sunset: a search of Capterra on 3 September 2026 returned no Boomset product page at all (accessed 3 September 2026). Boomset's capabilities were folded into Hopin's own platform. Beyond that we will not trace the ownership chain further, because the later corporate history could not be verified from a source we were able to load, and an unverified chain of custody is not a fact.

It is worth being blunt about what that product was, because it determines whether this page is any use to you. Boomset sat at the door and on the hardware: printers, kiosks, scanners, wristbands and readers, plus the payments and tracking that ran on them. That is a specialist category with real capital equipment behind it, and it is the one part of the event stack that cannot be replaced by software alone.

event67 does not compete there and has never claimed to. We have no badge printing, no kiosk or printer integration of any kind, no RFID, UHF or NFC tracking, and no cashless payments. If any of those were the reason you bought Boomset, an onsite specialist is where you should be looking, and nothing further down this page will change that. We are also not an official migration path for anybody's discontinued product, and we would not describe ourselves as one.

What organisers ask us for at the door — event67's own opinion

What follows is our own opinion about the requests we field, not a statement about any other product. The subset of former onsite-tooling customers who end up talking to us tend to want the same handful of things, and none of them involve a printer.

  • A door scan that never blocks the queue
  • An arrivals count the desk can trust
  • Something in the attendee's pocket, not just hardware
  • Engagement numbers during the event, not afterwards
  • One vendor for the app and the console
  • Pricing that does not need a hardware quote

Measured against our own product record: check-in works by scanning an attendee's QR badge at the door, and a repeat scan returns "already" rather than an error, which is the behaviour that keeps a queue moving when someone rejoins after lunch. A live arrivals count runs against the guest list, both at the desk and as a console widget. The attendee side is a native app in the organisation's own store listing, with schedule, personal agenda, directory, QR connections, live Q&A, polls, reactions, chat, a shared photo album and Apple Wallet passes. Engagement analytics — active attendees, funnels and top sessions — run live in the console during the event. And the price per activated attendee, with its per-event ceiling, is on our pricing page with no hardware line item, because there is no hardware.

Boomset (the retired Hopin event product) and event67, row by row

Every cell in the Boomset (the retired Hopin event product) column is quoted or summarised from a page we loaded ourselves, with the link and the date beside it. A row we could not source is not softened, it is removed. Boomset (the retired Hopin event product) may change its pricing at any time; check Boomset (the retired Hopin event product)'s pricing page for current figures.

event67 meters activated attendees on a single event. Boomset (the retired Hopin event product)'s published model is not applicable — Boomset was retired on 2023-09-01 and is no longer sold. Hopin published no pricing for it after the sunset announcement of 2023-03-07. The two are not the same unit, so the figures are not directly comparable.

Every event67 figure on this page is generated at build time from event67's own pricing library rather than typed into the page, so the page and the meter cannot disagree. event67 publishes no performance, capacity or throughput measurement on this page, and makes no comparative measurement of any other product.

Where to go next, and the honest split

Split the requirement in two and the decision resolves quickly. The hardware half — badge printing, self-service kiosks, wristbands and readers, cashless payment at bars and stalls — needs an onsite specialist, and that is a category we are not in. The software half, meaning who checked in, who is in the room and what they did while they were there, is what event67 covers, and it covers it with an attendee-facing app that Boomset's product line did not include.

Many organisers end up with two suppliers for that reason, and we would rather set that expectation on this page than let it emerge during an implementation.

Take the 900-person trade conference in the example strip. The delegate list imports from CSV, bulk invites go out with per-recipient delivery tracking, and invites are never metered, so an over-inclusive list costs nothing. Door staff scan QR badges into the console and watch arrivals climb against the guest list. Delegates work from a live filterable schedule with tracks, star sessions into a personal agenda, search the directory by name or company, scan each other to connect, ask questions in moderated live Q&A, answer polls from the session screen, rate sessions, and add photos to a shared album with auto-hide once a photo is reported. Announcements and messages deep-link to the exact post or thread, and can be published now or scheduled to push at a set time. Roles separate super-admins, organisation admins and per-event moderators.

What the example costs, exactly: 900 activated attendees, less the 50 included free, leaves 850 billable attendees at $5 each — $4,250 for the conference. Another 100 activations would take it to $4,750 and stop there, since that is the ceiling for one event. Both figures are generated by event67's pricing library rather than entered by hand.

What event67 does not do

For a former onsite-tooling customer this list is the most important part of the page, so it goes in full and near the top of your evaluation, not the bottom:

  • Onsite badge printing, printers and self-service kiosks
  • RFID, UHF or NFC wristbands, readers and attendee tracking
  • Cashless payments anywhere on site
  • Exhibitor lead retrieval and booth badge scanning
  • Attendee registration, ticketing and payment collection
  • Interactive floor plans, venue maps and wayfinding
  • Virtual and hybrid streaming and on-demand video
  • In-app account deletion — deletion runs by email and a web page

Our QR is attendee to attendee, plus check-in at the door against your own guest list. It is not exhibitor lead capture, it does not sync to a CRM, and describing it as either would be wrong.

Questions people actually ask

Is Boomset still available?

No. Trade press dated 7 March 2023 reported Hopin's announcement that Boomset would be retired on 1 September 2023, with no account access from 2 September 2023 (accessed 3 September 2026). A Capterra search on 3 September 2026 returned no Boomset product page, consistent with a product that has been withdrawn from the directory. There is no plan to price, no account to log into and no contract to renew.

What happened to Boomset's features?

They were folded into Hopin's own platform after the acquisition, which closed on 16 June 2021 according to trade press coverage of the deal (accessed 3 September 2026). The product covered badges, self-service kiosks, QR check-in, RFID, UHF and NFC tracking, cashless payments and attendance analytics. We are not tracing the corporate history beyond that point, because the later ownership chain could not be verified from a source we could load.

Can event67 print badges or run kiosks?

No, and this is the clearest limit on this page. event67 has no badge printing, no printer or kiosk integration of any kind, no RFID, UHF or NFC tracking and no cashless payments. If the reason you used Boomset was the hardware at the door, you need an onsite specialist, and event67 will be a second supplier alongside it rather than a replacement for it.

What can event67 do at the door?

Check-in by scanning an attendee's QR badge, with a repeat scan returning "already" instead of an error, and a live arrivals count against the guest list available both at the desk and as a console widget. That is software running on the devices your staff already carry. It is not a kiosk, it does not print anything, and it does not read a wristband. Everything else event67 does happens in the attendee's app.

What does event67 cost for a 900-person conference?

The first 50 activated attendees are free and each activated attendee after that is $5, so 900 people is $4,250. A single event never exceeds $4,750, because the price stops moving at 1,000 activated attendees and every attendee beyond that is free. Activated means the person claimed an invite and then opened the app, not that you imported them. Billing runs 48 hours after the event ends, never before.

Is event67 an official migration route for Boomset customers?

No, and we would not describe ourselves that way. There is no relationship, no endorsement and no data-transfer arrangement of any kind between event67 and the owners of Boomset. What exists is a CSV import: you bring a list of names and email addresses out of whatever system holds them now, and event67 takes it from there. Nothing in that step depends on any other vendor's cooperation.
